RIS-0386-CCS Iss 2

Overrun Risk Evaluation and Assessment

Synopsis

This document sets out requirements and guidance for the management of risk associated with trains exceeding the end of their movement authority.

Summary Of Changes

RIS-0386-CCS identifies technical and operational changes that may affect overrun risk. It details the required involvement of stakeholders in a common process to identify the mitigations and controls necessary to manage the shared risk associated with trains exceeding the limit of movement authority (MA).

RIS-0386-CCS has been updated to set out a clear process for managing the shared risk associated with a train exceeding the limit of MA, for lines fitted with lineside, in-cab signalling, or both. It also reflects good practices in the assessment and mitigation of the overrun risk.

The updated document provides detailed guidance that supports the identification of causes and consequences of overrun risk, and the relevant mitigations. It offers guidance on how overrun risk assessment relates to driveability and signalling sighting assessment.

It promotes the need to consider both human factors and systematic factors, including technological, organisational, and environmental conditions.
