Client Safety Assurance of High Integrity Software-Based Systems for Railway Applications

Synopsis

This document sets out requirements for safety assurance of high integrity software-based systems for railway applications.

Summary Of Changes

This Rail Industry Standard (RIS) includes a set of principal requirements, rationale and guidance on the specification, use and management of software-related systems across the overall lifecycle that can be applied within the framework of an organisation’s safety assurance procedure. The RIS will help industry to better manage and reduce the number of incidents where the performance of software is one of the causal factors, with the subsequent improvements in safety and reliability that that will bring. It has been produced to support Network Rail to address recommendation 1 from the RAIB report “Loss of safety critical signalling data on the Cambrian Coast line, 20 October 2017”.

17/10/2024 - CCS approved 12m review recommendation at its September 24 meeting. No further action required. Next review in 24m.
