RS521 Iss 8
Signals, Handsignals, Indicators and Signs Handbook
Synopsis
Summary Of Changes
Section 5.4 has been updated to remove references to the obsolete competency of Safe Work Leader.
The title of section 9 has been changed as the range of power changeover (PCO) signs includes application to lines other than ac electrified lines.
A new section 9.2 has been introduced to illustrate all signs associated with PCO.
The previous section 9.2 titled ‘Coasting Signs’ is now section 9.3 titled ‘Temporary PCO signs’. This is to cover situations in which a multi-mode train changes to self-powered mode to pass the affected area, as well as coasting. The new designs of signs are depicted.
The changes form part of a suite of standards changes relating to the introduction of new permanent and temporary power changeover signs applicable to multimode trains. It is anticipated that this suite of changes will make some contribution to reducing the number of failed changeovers.
