This handbook is intended as guidance to users of the GSM-R system used on the GB mainline railway.

The content has been improved by providing more detail on railway emergency group calls (RECs) and clarifying certain functions. Other changes include improving the flow of the document and highlighting the priority of certain call types. A photo of the train radio handset was added to help emphasise the function of the press-to-talk button (PTT) when a REC takes place. This should contribute to a reduction in delays caused by a lack of knowledge or hesitation when applying GSM-R procedures.
