This technical note is aimed at manufacturers of on-track machines (OTMs), manufacturers and converters of on-track plant (OTP), manufacturers of non-railborne plant used on railway infrastructure, and owners and operators of OTMs, OTP, and non-railborne plant used on railway infrastructure.

During the revision of its plant standards, RSSB found some duplication. RSSB and Plant Standards Committee decided it would be helpful to industry to publish a single document providing general information about using railborne and other plant and to provide links to the many other sources of useful information and guidance.
