GERT8000-TW1 Iss 21
Preparation and movement of trains
Synopsis
Summary Of Changes
A new instruction has been added in section 10.3 to state that the driver’s reminder appliance (DRA) does not need to be set if the main aspect or stop signal ahead can be seen to be displaying a proceed aspect or clear indication.
In issue 20, section 28.4 concerning reportable rail head adhesion states that signallers must continue to advise drivers until told that drivers are being advised by other means. As there is no provision for any other method of advice, the statement is incorrect and it has been removed.
The above changes form part of the suite of general updates issued annually which are intended to improve understanding and application of the content of the Rule Book and provide opportunities for duty holders to operate more efficiently.
Section 21 on ‘Personal equipment’ has been updated to align the contents with the introduction of extended block working. Form NR3190 ‘Emergency Special Working Ticket’ has been renamed to NR3190 ‘Extended Block Working Ticket’. A new instruction has been added for drivers to have a means of completing Form RT3185 and Form NR3190. The forms listed in this section are now in bullet point format for clarity and to remove duplication.
The introduction of extended block working to replace emergency special working (ESW) and temporary block working (TBW) ensures trains can continue to be moved safely and efficiently both after a signalling failure and following a return to normal working.
