An app to report concerns about health, safety, and wellbeing

This project created a mobile application for employees of CIRAS's members to raise health, safety, and wellbeing concerns in the UK transport industry.
'The new app is a simple and secure way for people to contact CIRAS with their concerns.'
Catherine Baker
Director-CIRAS, CIRAS

The challenge

Different people prefer to use different routes for raising concerns and CIRAS wanted to make this as easy as possible.

CIRAS was aware that many of our member companies had apps for their own internal reporting. We have been asked by both member representatives and their frontline staff on numerous occasions over several years about whether CIRAS could have an app to use for confidential reporting.

The aim of this project was to develop a mobile app for frontline staff to easily submit health, safety, and wellbeing concerns confidentially.

What we did

CIRAS shared a survey with industry to gain a greater understanding of the need for an app and its specific requirements.

Next, we undertook a procurement exercise to find an appropriate supplier able to meet the requirements highlighted in the survey results.

In collaboration with the chosen supplier, we then developed a mobile app that enabled frontline workers to confidentially submit their concerns.

We undertook a pilot to test the app and receive feedback before doing a full industry launch.

Benefits delivered

The app has benefits for users, member companies, and the CIRAS business.

Users benefit from improved accessibility and useability of the CIRAS confidential reporting service. This increases the likelihood that they will use it and have their health and safety concerns addressed.

Member companies benefit from improved value from CIRAS membership, because their staff are more likely to use the service. This results in a greater flow of intelligence enabling companies to make health and safety improvements based on feedback that they would otherwise have not received.

The CIRAS business benefits from being able to meet customer technology expectations, retain and attract new customers, and increase reporting levels. These all show CIRAS delivering greater value to members and are critical to the future sustainability of the business.
