Leaders across rail helped develop the Rail Health and Safety Strategy
The rail industry is in a period of change, and as it puts in place new structures and ways of working it must be vigilant in assuring the health and safety of those using the network and those working on the railway.
At the same time, we need to keep embracing the opportunities that new technology brings. And we must operate within the bounds of affordability.
In light of this, building on previous successful strategies, a new strategy for the management of Health and safety was needed.
The strategy was created by RSSB through extensive industry consultation. It sets the vision of becoming the healthiest, safest affordable railway in the world.
Taking an industry-wide assessment of key risks, the strategy provides strategic initiatives set-out in road maps. In each case, there is a clear intent and proposals to deliver practical outcomes.
Each road map is owned by the cross-industry collaborative groups facilitated by RSSB.
The areas interlink and it is the implementation of the whole strategy that will shift the safety performance and safety culture in the industry.
The updated Rail Health and Safety strategy was developed to bring greater cohesion and to shape the future culture of the industry in a period of change.
The strategy identifies the opportunities that offer the greatest benefit and value from working in collaboration.
By implementing this strategy, the rail industry will demonstrate its leadership and excellence in safety and health management and will contribute to the social and economic wellbeing of the UK.
