Safe Insights transforms rail’s approach to safety data
Recording and analysing accident and incident data is essential for maintaining a safe railway. SMIS, the central hub where rail companies recorded their data, required improvement.
The data reporting process could be accelerated and made more efficient by embracing new technologies such as AI. There were opportunities to enrich the detail of the data captured to support more advanced insights.
In response to feedback from industry, it was clear that a new system was required.
We designed a new system to replace SMIS, called Safe Insights. Collaborating with industry stakeholders and the Safe Insights Focus Group, Safe Insights was designed by industry, for industry.
The new solution:
- uses AI to help reporters enter data quickly and accurately
- automates connections to member systems so that data can be shared to avoid double-entry
- delivers a considerate and tailored user experience that streamlines industry reporting
- provides bespoke analysis and self-service insights for members.
We provided close support to members as they transitioned from SMIS to Safe Insights to maximise the adoption of new capabilities.
Safe Insights has changed the industry using intelligent AI features and automation. It has made reporting 40% faster, and increased data quality.
