Sustainable Rail Executive
The Sustainable Rail Executive (SRE) champions a whole-industry approach to sustainability. It influences and shapes the Sustainable Rail Blueprint, supporting rail to become the leading mode of sustainable transport. The group responds to government ambitions and oversees and promotes an ambitious, affordable, and practical rail sustainability programme.
'I am committed to working with the Sustainable Rail Executive to champion our industry-wide Sustainable Rail Blueprint, driving forward individual initiatives and nurturing the development of new ideas. Rail has a critical role in building a sustainable future for the UK and must play its part to deliver on this promise.'
Scope
The SRE is required to:
- drive forward the development of an ambitious, affordable, and practical sustainability blueprint to make rail the leading mode of sustainable transport
- coordinate policy and industry responses to sustainability challenges, influencing the government to weigh investment choices in rail against sustainability outcomes in other modes
- collate and report the combined efforts of the industry into a single, understandable view
- review the industry’s progress and provide challenge where it is needed, holding duty holders to account
- assesses sustainability funding and identify shortfalls, impressing upon funders the need for further support.
Rail Leader Update – Sustainability
