This document provides a standard on rolling stock shared data. Recording of some data is mandatory to register a vehicle; other data may be useful, for example to monitor vehicle maintenance. It is GB practice to use R2 for both types of data.

The legislative basis for this standard has been changed since the UK left the EU; this is reflected in the revised wording for clause 1.1.2. Other changes are in the Appendixes: references to TSIs have been changed to NTSNs, and some data formats have been added that were previously missing. In particular, the reference formats for SVCs and SOCATs have been added following discussions with Network Rail and Worldline R2 Managed Services.
