This document sets out common requirements for drugs and alcohol testing of staff carrying out safety critical work to be applied by the infrastructure manager and railway undertakings.

RIS-8070-TOM reproduces GERT8070 in its entirety, unchanged in Annex A. This RIS can be adopted by IMs and RUs to help discharge their legal obligations to have processes in place for testing safety critical workers for drugs and alcohol. The RIS will also assist transport operators to meet their legal obligations to have arrangements in place for the industry agreed set of defined limits that are more onerous than those set out in the Transport and Work Act 1992. This document is currently under review.
