RIS-2761-RST Iss 2

Rail Industry Standard for Driving Cabs

Synopsis

This document sets out supplementary requirements for the design, layout and operational equipment in driving cabs of rail vehicles to the Locomotive and Passenger (LOC&PAS) National Technical Specification Notice (NTSN), in line with GB practice.

Summary Of Changes

Driving cab design requirements and guidance contain gaps that have led to differences in cab design and has resulted in the introduction of some cabs that include features that have resulted in discomfort or injury to drivers, and increased operational risk.

RIS-2761-RST issue two sets out new requirements for side glazing in driving cabs to support drivers aligning with station features, thermal comfort including air conditioning and the illumination of cab footsteps to reduce the risk of injury when accessing or egressing the driving cab during hours of darkness. Guidance has been added as an appendix on good practice in human factors for driving cab design.
