Corrosion of rail vehicles
Synopsis
This technical note will help those maintaining or repairing rolling stock in detecting, and if appropriate, remedying corrosion. It covers current maintenance practice as well as historic documents.
This technical note was originally numbered TN102.
Summary Of Changes
This technical note has been produced in response to the Rail Accident Investigation Branch’s report into the derailment of a passenger train at Carmont, Scotland (August 2020), and the Office of Rail and Road’s report into cracking on trains.
This technical note complements RIS-2004-RST Rail Vehicle Maintenance and RIS-2780-RST Rail Vehicle Structures.
It is applicable to:
- railway undertakings;
- rolling stock owners and leasing companies;
- vehicle maintainers and manufacturers; and
- project entities.
