Crashworthiness risk assessment for mainline passenger rolling stock
Synopsis
This Technical Note aims to address Recommendation 19 c) of RAIB’s Carmont report. This required RSSB, in consultation with operators of pre-1994 passenger rolling stock, to develop formalised industry guidance for assessing and mitigating the risks associated with continued operation of mainline passenger rolling stock designed before modern crashworthiness standards were introduced.
Summary Of Changes
This technical note is aimed to support the following organisations where they are associated with mainline passenger rolling stock designed before modern crashworthiness standards (pre-1994). However, the process can be used to support assessment of mainline rolling stock against relevant versions of GMRT2100:
- Railway undertakings (RU);
- Rolling stock owners and leasing companies;
- Entities in Charge of Maintenance (ECMs); and
- Project entities assessing and mitigating the crashworthiness risks.
