Pantograph gauging

Pantographs are installed on the roofs of trains to collect current from an overhead conductor which provides electrical energy to power trains. By design the pantograph head must maintain a good connection with the overhead contact wire. Sufficient clearance must be present between the pantograph head, fixed assets, and vehicle to maintain safe operation. Pantograph gauging is the process of demonstrating compatibility between the vehicle’s pantograph head and adjacent fixed assets including other parts of the energy subsystems.
