Rail Freight Operations Group

Scope

The objectives of Railfreight Operations Group are:

• To provide an open forum for freight operating companies (FOCs) to collaboratively discuss operational safety issues with each other, and share safety intelligence from other industry meetings
• To monitor and review freight SPAD performance, ERTMS implementation, Railway Group Standards drafting, infrastructure issues, RAIB reports and ORR reports
• To act as a ‘task and finish’ group for National Freight Safety Group (NFSG) for selected operational safety matters, as directed.

Message from the Chair

The objectives of Railfreight Operations Group are to provide an open forum for freight operating companies (FOCs) to collaboratively discuss operational safety issues with each other, and share safety intelligence from other industry meetings; Also, to monitor and review freight SPAD performance, ERTMS implementation, Railway Group Standards drafting, infrastructure issues, RAIB reports and ORR reports; and to act as a ‘task and finish’ group for National Freight Safety Group (NFSG) for selected operational safety matters, as directed.

Membership

The group’s membership is made up of the following industry categories:

• Department for Transport (observer)
• notified Body
• passenger train operators
• freight and other non-passenger train operators
• RSSB.
