Rolling Stock
Five Rolling Stock standards have been updated.
- GMGN2688 Iss 3 – Application of the WAG NTSN and NOI NTSN to the Design of Freight Wagons
The guidance note will support the authorisation and development of wagon designs for operation on the GB mainline railway.
- RIS-2701-RST Iss 2 – Rail Industry Standard for NDT Processes on Rail Vehicles
This standard has been updated to improve its readability. Issue 2 is clearer in preparing test procedures, approval of new techniques, certification of equipment, facilities, and operatives.
- RIS-2761-RST Iss 2 – Rail Industry Standard for Driving Cabs
This standard puts a human at the centre of the cab design process. It aims to reduce operational risks like train stop-shorts and station over runs.
- GMGN2641 Iss 2 – Guidance Note on Vehicle Static Testing
The revised guidance simplifies projects working on new or modified vehicles for carrying intermodal load units.
- GMRT2141 Iss 5 – Permissible Track Forces and Resistance to Derailment and Roll-Over of Railway Vehicles
This update will make demonstrating compliance more straightforward for projects. This will reduce costs and time for the introduction of new or modified wagons. Together, the changes in GMRT2141 Iss 5 and GMGN2641 Iss 2, are estimated to benefit the industry by £3M over 5 years. This is from improved efficiency of a range of new and modified vehicle projects.
One Rolling Stock Technical Note has been updated.
- TN2314 Iss 1 – Route availability
This Technical Note describes the standards associated with rail vehicle route availability numbers. It also gives guidance on their application.
Control, Command and Signalling
One Control, Command and Signalling standard has been updated.
- GKRT0057 Iss 2 – Lineside Signal and Indicator Product Design and Assessment Requirements
This standard provides a single document with all the requirements, rationale, and associated guidance for lineside signal and indicator product design and assessment. It also contains guidance from GKGN0657 Iss 1 which has now been withdrawn.
Infrastructure
Three Infrastructure standards have been updated.
- RIS-8706-INS Iss 2 – Route Level Assessment of Technical Compatibility between Rail Vehicles and Underline Bridges
This standard has new requirements for assessing train-bridge compatibility. More guidance has been added for plant travelling.
- GERT8006 Iss 4 – Route Availability Number for Assessment of Compatibility between Rail Vehicles and Underline Bridges
This update clarifies the application of loadings. It will make the Route Availability number more accurate.
- GEGN8616 Iss 1 – Guidance on evaluating excessive dynamic effects in underline bridges
New guidance helps engineers and operators carry out the Stage 3 compatibility assessment.
Non-RSSB Standards
In June, one revised Code of Practice was published.
The revised Code of Practice is:
- COP0131 Iss 2 – Code of Practice for OTM Driver Communication Review Group (CRG)
