Sustainable Rail Leadership Group
The purpose of the Sustainable Rail Leadership Group (SRLG) is to enable the rail industry to efficiently and effectively deliver a more sustainable railway through adoption of the Sustainable Rail Blueprint.

Our mission is to achieve cleaner air and reduced carbon consumption, together with better advised environmental, sustainability, social value and accessibility decision making. We are establishing the trajectory needed to deliver the zero net carbon by 2050 goal, as defined by the Climate Change Commission."
Scope
The scope of the Sustainable Rail Leadership Group (SRLG) as defined in its terms of reference includes:
- Being the endorsing body for the Sustainable Rail Blueprint.
- Identifying opportunities to effectively and efficiently improve sustainability at industry level
- Commissioning studies or research or use other methods to seek to remove barriers and take opportunities to improve industry sustainability
- Identifying solutions and making recommendations to relevant parties on implementation
- Validating proposed goals, metrics, targets and route maps for rail industry sustainability aspects, challenging to ensure these are appropriate and robust
- Identifying and sharing best practice for sustainability from within or outside GB rail.

Air Quality Working GroupThe Air Quality Working Group (AQWG) is a specialist group reporting to the Sustainable Rail Leadership Group (SRLG). This working group facilitates industry collaboration on the development and delivery of UK rail’s strategic framework to meet its air quality ambitions.

Climate Change Adaptation Working GroupThe purpose of the Climate Change Adaptation Working Group (CCAWG) is to lead and define a collaborative industry approach to weather resilience and climate change.

Decarb Working GroupThe purpose of the Decarb Working Group (DWG) is to lead, oversee and guide the industry in contributing to the government’s net-zero emissions target by 2050. The group will also define the strategic approach for the rail industry.

Infrastructure Carbon Working GroupThe Infrastructure Carbon Working Group (ICWG) has been set up to deliver the net zero carbon rail element of the Sustainable Rail Blueprint (SRB). The group has a particular focus on two of the SRB’s strategic aims: net zero assets and net zero value chain.

Modern Slavery Solution Sharing GroupThe Modern Slavery Solution Sharing Group (MSSSG) facilitates cross-industry collaboration in managing modern slavery risks on the railway. The group is accountable to the Social Sustainability Working Group (SSWG).

Natural Value Working GroupThe purpose of the Natural Value Working Group (NVWG) is to lead and define a strategic approach on the role of natural value and biodiversity in relation to the rail industry.

Noise Working GroupThe purpose of the Noise Working Group (NWG) is to lead a coherent and clear narrative on noise and vibration within the rail industry. The group will collate ideas from across the industry and influence policy, legislation, and standards.

Rail Environment ForumThe Rail Environment Forum (REF) is the expert group leading on environmental issues relating to passengers, railway stations and freight operators in Great Britain. The forum aims to enable the rail industry, to effectively manage environmental risk, reduce all negative environmental impacts while enhancing positive environmental impacts.

Rail Social Value Tool Steering GroupThe Rail Social Value Tool Steering Group (RSVT SG) brings together key users of the Rail Social Value Tool (RSVT) to provide a governance function for the RSVT and to inform and guide the ongoing development of the tool. The RSVT enables rail organisations to forecast, monitor and evaluate the data they collect relating to social value.

Sustainable Rail Blueprint Working GroupThe aim of the Sustainable Rail Blueprint Working Group (SRBWG) is to facilitate collaboration and align the industry’s aims and objectives to establish an affordable and coherent sustainability strategy. The group will also provide the sustainability expertise required for the Long-Term Strategy for Rail (LTSfR).

Social Sustainability Working GroupThe purpose of the Social Sustainability Working Group (SSWG) is to facilitate cross industry collaboration on the social sustainability agenda. This includes social impact, social performance and social value.
