RSSB Chief Executive Mark Phillips gave a lecture yesterday, 17 January 2018, at the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE) on the topic of the case for an independent System Authority.
The BCRRE, based at the University of Birmingham , is the premier centre for research and thought leadership within the railways. It offers a variety of education programmes for students and works closely with the rail industry.
Mark's speech was part of a programme of lectures delivered by leaders from across the rail sector. Talking about the role of the system operator and the case for establishment of an independent system authority, his wide ranging speech covered the challenges industry and the system operator face. He also outlined a proposal for how a new framework could help prepare the railways for the future and ensure value for money both for taxpayers and passengers. This was followed by questions from the students attending.
