Helen Costello, Director of Business Management and Performance
Helen rejoined RSSB in January 2024 as Director of Business Management and Performance. She oversees the delivery and governance of all business activities, focusing on timely and efficient benefit realisation for the membership and the wider industry. She is also responsible for the production of RSSB’s Annual Business Plan.
Previously, Helen was with Trenitalia c2c Ltd, where she served since 2015 in various capacities across operations, projects, and franchise delivery. Her key achievements include leading the driver function, implementing the 12-car ‘Driver Only Operated’ dispatch in 2016, and introducing the new 387 rolling stock. As Head of Relationships and Programmes, she successfully led the franchise team through the critical phases of emergency contracts and transitioned into the National Rail Contracts, managing external relationships with Network Rail and the Department for Transport.
Before her tenure at c2c, Helen was part of RSSB, where she managed the first cross-industry platform-train interface strategy. Her other experience includes roles in the transport team for the 2012 London Olympics and the completion of her graduate scheme at Transport for London.
Currently pursuing her MBA at the Open University, Helen holds an honours degree in English literature and language from the University of Leeds.
